Sofiat’s Story
The Save Community Care Foundation (SCCF–Uganda) team, one of our partner nonprofits, visited Sofiat after learning of her struggles. They found a mother of eleven, devastated by the loss of two babies to malnutrition and the passing of her husband. Her three youngest babies are also battling malnutrition, and her living conditions are dire.
Sofiat and her children live in Katwe, Nawaikoke Village, one of Uganda’s poorest and most overcrowded areas. They share a single room, and with her husband unwell and unable to work, Sofiat is the only provider. She survives by begging from door to door, earning barely $1 a day—just enough to buy a little food. She cannot afford rent, medical care, or school fees. Learn More
“I don’t have anything to give them, so I have to beg,” Sofiat said. “I look after them as if they are my own.”
The Reality of Poverty in Uganda
Sofiat’s situation reflects the struggles of many families in Uganda. Nearly half of the population lives below the poverty line, and the rising cost of living only deepens the crisis. In 2022, inflation reached 5.01%, with food and fuel prices increasing by more than 50%. Families like Sofiat’s are the hardest hit, left with no means to afford basics such as food, soap, or school.
Despite these challenges, SCCF–Uganda and Ryvanz-Mia Charity are committed to helping Sofiat rebuild her life. Together, we are creating both immediate relief and long-term solutions to help her provide for her family.
How You Can Help

- 4-inch mattresses and bedding (children currently sleep on the floor)
- Mosquito nets and blankets
- Monthly supply of food and soap
- Basins for bathing and washing
- Medical care, supplements, and healthcare access
- Clothing and footwear
- School sponsorship and learning materials
- Daily milk for the children
