The world commemorates international literacy day.

The world commemorates International Literacy Day, designated by UNESCO in 1967, as an annual awareness day that marks the importance of literacy to all countries and cultures 8th of September every year.

International Literacy Day is celebrated this year under the theme “Literacy for a human-centered recovery: Narrowing the digital divide.”

However, the virus crisis has disrupted the learning of children, young people, and adults at an unprecedented scale. It has also magnified the pre-existing inequalities in access to meaningful literacy learning opportunities. Thereby disproportionally affecting 773 million non-literate young people and adults.

Youth and adult literacy

In commemorating, the world International Literacy Day Youth and adult literacy #adultlitetacy were absent in many initial national response plans, while numerous literacy programs have been forced to halt.

While the pandemic has accelerated digital platforms for learning, earning, and connecting, some 2.2 billion people below 25 still do not have internet access at home. People in developing countries are more likely to be cut off. The less privileged are at high risk of being neglected. Sign up or visit our website.
