Agenda 2030 Goal 2

AGENDA 2030 GOAL 2

NUMBERS

According to estimates, the number of people suffering from hunger in the world could exceed the 840 million mark by 2030. According to reports from the UN, around 795 million people in the world – that is, one in nine people – are undernourished.

GOAL

Objective 2 of the 2030 Agenda is important precisely because it certifies the Governments’ commitment to implement active policies against a condition that is a source of suffering for millions of people and which contradicts the universal declaration of human rights.

AGENDA

Goal 2 of the 2030 Agenda requires the international community to commit itself to ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture. In the first place, therefore, the urgency of getting millions of people out of the state of malnutrition in the world in the coming years is underlined.

1 CHALLANGE

The challenge is to ensure access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food throughout the year. The target is all people suffering from malnutrition: the poor and those in vulnerable situations, including children.

2 CHALLANGE

By 2025, the wasting of children under the age of 5 must be stopped. Other particularly sensitive categories are adolescent girls, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the elderly.

3 CHALLANGE

International bodies will have to guarantee the income of small-scale food producers. Particular attention must be paid to women, indigenous peoples, families of farmers, shepherds and fishermen.

In addition to secure access to land and natural resources, the tools to create added value and non-agricultural employment must be offered.

4 CHALLANGE

Equally important is the protection of the genetic diversity of crops and farmed, wild or domestic animals. Therefore, it will be essential to increase spending on rural infrastructure, research and technological development activities, agricultural extension, genetic banks of plants and livestock.

WHAT CAN YOU DO

In your daily life you too can do something concrete to fight hunger in the world:

– reduce food waste in the home

– buy seasonal products and from local producers

– donate what you don’t use to associations that help those in need

– support the fair trade market

– supports associations that support developing countries.
